Fire near Alberta's Waterton Lakes National Park now 95 per cent contained

WATERTON, Alta. — A wildfire that at one point prompted an evacuation alert in Alberta's Waterton National Park is now 95 per cent contained.

Parks Canada has been working with the U.S. National Park Service to manage the forest fire near Goat Haunt in Glacier National Park which is adjacent to Waterton.

A thermal scan Friday morning confirmed the fire is relatively quiet with only a few hot spots.

Five crews and a helicopter continue to work on the fire which is 10 hectares in size and approximately 100 metres wide and one kilometre long.

Some backcountry campgrounds and several trails on both sides of the border are still closed.
