Melissa Bishop sets Canadian record in 800 to book spot in world final

BEIJING — Melissa Bishop has shattered the Canadian record and booked her spot in the final of the 800 metres at the world track and field championships.

The 27-year-old from Eganville, Ont., ran one minute 57.52 seconds — the fastest time of the night out of three semifinals.

The previous Canadian record was 1:58.39 set by Diane Cummins in 2001.

Bishop is coming off a victory at the Pan American Games last month in Toronto,
