Screen grab lead to NDP turmoil in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley

HALIFAX — A single screen grab from a Facebook page has led to turmoil within the ranks of an NDP riding association in Nova Scotia's Annapolis valley.

The image was circulated by the Conservatives earlier this month.

It includes a comment about "ethnic cleansing" in Israel attributed to Morgan Wheeldon, then the NDP's candidate in Kings-Hants.

Wheeldon resigned on Aug. 10, the riding association's president stepped down earlier this week and the party's hand-picked replacement for Wheeldon is now refusing to run.

Stephen Schneider issued an online statement Wednesday saying he believes Wheeldon's removal was unjust.

The New Democrats have a month to select a new candidate, as the deadline for nominations is Sept. 28.
