Author Says Idris Elba Is 'Too Street' To Play James Bond In '007'

EXCUSE ME?!

UPDATE: Author Anthony Horowitz followed up his comments with an apology to the actor on Twitter on Tuesday:

Author Anthony Horowitz, who recently wrote a James Bond novel, told the Daily Mail actor Idris Elba was "too street" to play Bond.

Horowitz, who is now being called out for making racist comments, also told the U.K. tabloid Elba isn't suave enough.

"For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. 'Is it a question of being suave? Yeah,’" he told the paper.

The author, who has written for television and film, also said he never liked "Skyfall" starring Daniel Craig — who by the way recently said "Spectre" will probably be his last Bond film. So hey, we could finally have Elba as Bond either way.

Horowitz, who claims he wasn't making a comment about Elba's race, did say black actor Adrian Lester would make a good Bond. And while we've been patiently waiting for a man of colour to play this role, British actor David Oyelowo will be narrating as Bond in Horowitz's upcoming book.

And as the first man to be on the cover of Maxim — seriously have you seen this man in a suit? — and an actor with several huge roles behind his name, we're pretty sure a smooth spy is something Elba can easily portray.

Either way, Elba can play any role he wants to and we'd watch it for hours. Check out what some people had to say on Twitter over Horowitz's comments and let us know, who would be your ideal Bond?
