Safeway is recalling cucumbers and items containing cucumbers due to a possible salmonella contamination.
The recall affects cucumbers sold in bulk, unwrapped and in-store produced products that contain cucumbers. This includes items like Greek salad, vegetable trays, sushi and sandwiches purchased from Safeway on or before Sept. 6, 2015.
The potentially contaminated items were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says these products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
The CFIA advises that food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea if consumed.
The agency says the outbreak may be linked to a salmonella outbreak at a produce plant in the U.S., which has so far led to 285 illnesses and one death, according to AP.
No illnesses have been reported in Canada.
