Chiarelli, Bowman to run Team North America, Satan to help run Team Europe

TORONTO — Peter Chiarelli of the Edmonton Oilers and Stan Bowman of the Chicago Blackhawks will lead Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Chiarelli, an Ottawa native, was part of Canada's management team for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Bowman is from Montreal but has dual citizenship.

Team North America will comprise players aged 23 and under from Canada and the United States. Star rookies Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel are likley to be on that roster.

Former NHL forward Miroslav Satan was named general manager for Team Europe, made up of players from Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany and other countries.

German Ice Hockey Federation President Franz Reindl will be the president of Team Europe.

The World Cup of Hockey begins Sept. 17, 2016, and could run until Oct. 1.

Canada and the United States will play in Group A along with Team Europe and the Czech Republic.

Group B will be made up of Russia, Sweden, Finland and Team North America.
