Mayor calls for added safety measures for cab drivers in St. John's

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The mayor of St. John's, N.L., is calling for better safety measures for cab drivers.

Dennis O'Keefe says something has to be done following yet another alleged assault on a City Wide Taxi driver over the weekend.

However, Coun. Tom Hann says the city does not have the jurisdiction to impose safety measures.

That's why O'Keefe has chosen to write a letter to the provincial government asking for help.

Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth says adding barriers inside each cab could increase safety.
