Welsh Weatherman Nails Pronunciation Of Town's Tongue-Twister Name

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Your turn.

In an incredible feat of phonetic contortion, a BBC weatherman pronounced the extraordinarily long name of a Welsh town in just one take.

Liam Dutton showed off his linguistic chops during a weather report Tuesday after noticing the coastal town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch hit 21 degrees.

It was a news opportunity that delighted the 34-year-old native Welsh speaker, giving him a chance to flex his g’s and l’s on-air.

Watch his report below:

Warm day in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio...

It may be a mouthful to say, but Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in north west Wales was one of the warmest places in the UK today. And, it was no problem for our Welsh weather presenter Liam Dutton to mention it on today’s weather forecast.

“It was just an ordinary day… with a very long name,” Dutton told MailOnline.

According to globetrotter Rick Steves, the name of the town translates to “St. Mary’s Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the red cave.”

Even that is a mouthful.

Though Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch may take the crown for Europe’s most-complex town name, it’s not the longest in the world. That title belongs to Bangkok’s name in Thai.

It’s full name? Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.

Now say that 10 times fast.
