Ottawa Cabbie Threatens Uber Driver, Passenger In Unconfirmed Video

Video Appears To Show Ottawa Cabbie Threatening Uber Driver, Passenger

Warning: Profane Language

A video shot a block from Parliament Hill in Ottawa appears to show a cabbie threatening an Uber driver and passenger.

At least, that’s what the YouTube video states in its title. Ottawa police say they can’t confirm the identity of the person who appears in the video.

The video was posted to YouTube on Saturday and had more than 407,000 views as of late Monday morning. It shows a man standing outside the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, purportedly a cab driver, threatening what we are led to believe is an Uber driver and passenger.

“You think I'm joking? If I see you again you are dead meat. Go follow the law, get a real job,” the man standing outside the car says.

Shouting and profanities follow.

“You take a real taxi, you f--king cheapskate,” the man says moments later, purportedly to the passenger.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson said he was “disgusted” by what he saw in the video, and said he asked his staff if they could identify the person.

“It’s bullying and it really is despicable,” he said, as quoted at CBC.

Ottawa police say they are investigating but so far no victim has come forward.

“The issue we are facing is it appears this man is making threats, but we need someone to come forward as a victim,” said Sgt. Frederick St-Pierre. “In incidents of a threatening nature, we need a victim to lay charges.”

The incident is the latest in a series of confrontations and controversies that have broken out in the wake of Uber’s arrival in Canada.

Officers in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal have laid charges against numerous Uber drivers this year. Authorities say the UberX ride service violates highway regulations.
