The results have been tallied, and once again, Canadian universities rank among the world's very best institutions.
Just ... not as highly this time.
QS Top Universities has just released its World University Rankings for 2015/16, and alumni of three Canadian schools can proudly say they attended places that rank within the top 50 around the world.
At 24th place, McGill University in Montreal ranked first among Canadian schools, followed by the University of Toronto (U of T) at 34th, and the University of British Columbia (UBC) at 50th.
10 Canadian universities that rank among the world's best:
All of these rankings represent a drop from last year's list, when U of T came in at 20th, McGill 21st and UBC at 43rd. Their overall scores dropped as well.
The ranking body determines overall rankings by weighing six performance indicators.
They include academic reputation (40 per cent), which is determined through a global survey of academics.
For this, QS Top Universities received 76,800 responses from global academics, which were gathered over a five-year period. No one was allowed to vote for their own school.
QS Top Universities also takes employer reputation, or schools that are "producing the best graduates," into account at 10 per cent. This, too, is determined through a global survey, but it took 44,200 responses, fewer than were required for academic reputation.
The rankings also consider student-to-faculty ratio (20 per cent), citations per faculty (20 per cent), and international faculty and student ratio (five per cent each).
The Canadian schools in the top 50 are regularly featured near the peak of national university rankings.
But overall school rankings aren't the only area where Canadian institutions come out on top. They also sit in the top 50 of every subject area, except for communications and media studies.
Clearly, Canada is a good place to go to school.
