When a model falls on the runway it feels as though time stands still as we watch her hopes and dreams come literally come crashing down. (Yes, we're still cringing at the thought of Victoria's Secret angel, Candice Swanepoel, taking a tumble on the Givenchy catwalk earlier this week.)
But for the team at Opening Ceremony, the sight of models falling all over the runway posed as an interesting thought...
Showing their spring 2016 ready-to-wear at New York Fashion Week on Monday evening, Opening Ceremony merged modern dance and fashion together to create one unforgettable show. Together with the New York City Ballet, OC creative directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, presented their new collection of structured silhouettes and organic colours with choreographed tumbles and falls.
In one Instagram video, we see a model/dancer wearing cargo pants and a linen top coming powerfully down the runway. And then to the horror of onlookers, the model takes a hard-hitting fall. But, surprise! She flings herself back up and performs a dramatic routine, pirouetting down the catwalk.
"It was about breaking the monotony of the runway," Leon told Dazed. "We wanted to challenge the idea of what a fashion show is."
We say, mission accomplished.
