Dewdney Bridge Closed To Fix Weakened Wooden Support

The province has closed Highway 7 at the Dewdney Slough Bridge, east of Mission, because of an issue with a wooden support pile.

Engineers found Thursday that the top part of one of the support piles had weakened, leading to the bridge settling on the stronger section, said a government news release.

"There is no danger of the bridge collapsing," added the statement.

Drivers should expect the bridge to be closed for at least "a couple of days" for repairs, said the province, and updates can be found at DriveBC.

A detour is available via Highway 1, using either Highway 11 via Mission from the west or Highway 9 via Agassiz from the east, said officials.
