Canadian dollar, U.S. index futures up before open of North American markets

TORONTO — The Canadian dollar was up and U.S. stock market futures were positive ahead of the North American trading day Monday.

The loonie gained 0.11 of a U.S. cent, rising to 75.77 cents US.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 98 points at 16,416.0, the S&P 500 futures advanced 10.2 points to 1,960.8 and the Nasdaq futures gained 19.0 points to 4,345.8.

On the commodity markets, the December gold contract fell $4.60 to US$1,133.20 an ounce, the October crude contract was up $1.15 at US$45.83 a barrel and the October contract for natural gas was down four cents at US$2.57.

On Friday, the S&P/TSX index in Toronto S&P/TSX composite index lost 140.26 points to close at 13,646.90.
