Fishing vessel in trouble near Resolution Island in Frobisher Bay

A fishing vessel is in trouble and taking on water off Resolution Island at the mouth of Frobisher Bay in Nunavut, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax has confirmed.

The name of the 20-metre-long vessel is the Atlantic Charger, registered in 2012 in St. John's, and owned by Brad Watkins.

Initial reports were that the boat had sunk, but that appears not to be the case.

Aircraft and the CCGS Des Groseilliers icebreaker are on their way to the scene, about 400 kilometres southeast of Iqaluit.

It's not yet clear how many people were on board.
