Airdrie RCMP have confirmed the name of a victim who was found last week in a burned vehicle discovered at the bottom of a ravine.
33-year-old Mohammed Saqib "was last seen driving in Calgary (the) night before (the) vehicle (was) found,” RCMP spokesperson Sharon Franks told the Airdrie City View.
According to the RCMP, the local fire department responded to a vehicle fire in a ravine just off a rural road near Airdrie on Sept. 18 at 7 a.m.
After the fire was extinguished, fire crews discovered a body in the vehicle and brought in the RCMP to investigate, reports the Airdrie Echo.
Fire Chief Ben Niven of the Crossfield Fire Department was able to confirm his crews were at the scene, but RCMP requested he not speak to the media about the investigation, the Airdrie City View wrote.
RCMP have not yet release how the fire was started or how Saqib died.
The RCMP Major Crimes Branch is considering the case a homicide, and is continuing to investigate. They are asking for the public's help — anyone with information about Saqib's whereabouts prior to Friday, Sept. 18, should contact the RCMP immediately.
