Josh Jooris scores in overtime as Flames beat Canucks 4-3

VANCOUVER — Josh Jooris scored in overtime as the Calgary Flames defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in pre-season action Saturday night at Rogers Arena.

Brandon Bollig scored twice and Markus Granlund had a goal for the Flames (3-2-0) in regulation time.

Brendan Gaunce, Bo Horvat and Alex Friesen scored for Vancouver (1-2-1).

It was the second straight meeting for the two teams. Calgary won Friday's game 4-1 at home.

Similar to Friday, Vancouver opened the scoring first. Midway through the opening period, off a 3-on-2 rush, Radim Vrbata's shot on Karri Ramo resulted in a rebound for a crashing Gaunce to tap in. It was the Canucks' first even-strength goal of the pre-season.

Calgary evened it with just over three minutes left in the first. Bollig took a pass from Matt Stajan and lasered the puck through a gap between Ryan Miller and the post.

That Flames duo clicked again in the second. Stajan intercepted a clearing attempt by Miller, then found Bollig, who scored his second less than a minute into the period.

The Canucks tied it on the power play when Jared McCann, from the face-off circle, dished a nice pass to Horvat, who completed a tic-tac-toe play with a one-timer past Ramo.

Minutes after McCann set up Friesen to make it 3-2 Vancouver, Calgary answered back with a net-crashing goal by Granlund with six minutes to play.

The Canucks outshot the Flames 42-24 through three periods.

Jooris won it in a mandatory 3-on-3 overtime.

Notes: Vancouver opens the regular season Oct. 7 against the Flames in Calgary. ... Vancouver's Henrik and Daniel Sedin celebrated their 35th birthday on Saturday.
