Bad news for man bun wearers/enthusiasts/fans -- the ever-so-popular hairstyle could be making men go bald.
According to experts, a tight topknot can result in traction alopecia, that is, hair loss from continual pulling on certain parts of the hair. The condition is especially damaging to men who are already prone to male pattern baldness, which is irreversible.
Dermatologist Sabra Sullivan tells Mic this condition is becoming more common in men as more guys put their hair up.
"I see it probably once or twice a week," she says. "They're putting traction on the hair follicles that the hair is not really meant to take. Unfortunately, once the hair follicle is damaged, it doesn't grow best."
And if you think the man braid is a good solution, think again -- traction alopecia can also be caused by tight braids and ponytails.
At this point, Zoolander said it best:
R.I.P. man bun!
