There are three things required for the perfect proposal: the element of surprise, a show of effort and lots of romance.

When Redditor justinlebon26 proposed to his girlfriend Michal on Christmas day 2014, he had it all.

"I knew she would never expect it due to carefully planned talks about 'finances, and Christmas budgets' that always ended with 'we need to start saving more money' hahaha," Justin explained on Reddit.

Knowing he had the surprise part down, Justin went to work planning the second phase of his proposal — the show of effort.

Justin landed on the idea of a Monopoly board, which just happens to be Michal's favourite game. But unlike a traditional board, Justin wanted their board to be extra special. He hired craftsman Mark Becker on Etsy to build a personalized board that followed the couple's relationship from the start.

Match.com, where the couple first met, replaced the classic first property, Mediterranean Ave. Instead of railroads, Justin chose four Westin Hotels where the couple had vacationed. And beneath the Luxury Tax space lay a trap door that would open to a sparkling diamond engagement ring.

To ensure Michal landed on the right spot, Justin fixed the dice so she could only roll a three and a four. She needed a seven to land on the Chance card that would take her straight to the Luxury Tax space.

"After Michal quickly moved her piece to luxury tax I got down on one knee and poured my heart out. I said everything I wanted to say and took my time. It was great. Then I reached down into my pocket and pulled out.... a long wire key. Michal had gone through a lot at this point and was still trying to put it all together. I asked her if she would marry me. She said yes. I asked if she wanted to see something really cool. She nodded her head up and down. I took the wire key and popped open a secret door underneath the luxury tax. Again... Michal's face.. was priceless," Justin recalled.

Yep, it's safe to say Justin planned himself the perfect proposal.
