This year's annual We Day event in Toronto will feature performances from The Kenyan Boys Choir, the official 2015 ambassadors for Free The Children.
We Day and We Day schools are programs aimed at engaging the youth to make social change in their community by turning "me into we," according to We Day's website. The students and groups attending the We Day concert Oct. 1, each earned their ticket through the We Schools program. The program provides them with access to free educational resources to help complete one local and one global action relating to any social justice issue they choose prior to the concert.
The Kenyan Boys Choir will perform with the likes of Hozier and Spencer West but first stopped by the HuffPost Canada Studios ahead of the event to talk about their experiences touring the world.
The choir originally formed at Aquinas High School in 2004, and after their first tour across the United States at the invitation of the St. Louis African Chorus, the choir expanded it's program across Kenya, according to the Globe and Mail.
"Our mission is to train young boys back home in Kenya just to learn different life skills through music and just to have a positive impact in their society back home," said Henry Wanjala, a founding member of the group.
We Day will take place at the Air Canada Centre on Friday, Oct. 1 and it is a free event for children ages 12 and up.
