Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren is the "most dangerous" celebrity to search for online, according to a new study from Intel Security.
The company used McAfee’s WebAdvisor software to figure out how many risky sites are generated through a search for celebrity names and frequently searched terms, according to a press release.
Searching for van Buuren nets you almost an 18 per cent chance of running into an online threat, that is, if you click on all of the search results that the terms generate.
Intel's Gary Davis explains in a blog that musicians are a big target for cybercriminals because many music fans look to the web to download MP3s of their favourite songs. Online crooks might then use terms like “free mp3” or “torrent” to bait you to download files.
Coming in behind the DJ in the top 10 was country star Luke Bryan, followed in order by Usher, Britney Spears, Jay Z, Katy Perry, Amy Schumer, Betty White, Lorde and Nina Dobrev.
Van Buuren replaces TV host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who was named 2014's "most dangerous" celeb to search.
Davis warns consumers to only download from reputable sources like Apple and Google Play Music, and be strict when sharing your personal information.
