These Canadians Know As Much About Canada As Americans Do

No, the prime minister is not Jean Chretien.

Canadians should never have been so smug about "Talking to Americans."

Because as this video shows, certain people here know as much about our politics as our neighbours to the south do.

This video, posted to YouTube on Monday, shows comedian Guy Nantel interviewing Torontonians about the Canadian election.

He asks questions such as who the prime minister is, and three separate people can't tell him.

One said it was Jean Chretien, who hasn't been in office since December 2003.

Others couldn't identify who NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair was from a picture. One person thought it was former newspaper magnate Conrad Black.

The segment reminded us of "Talking to Americans," a show that comedian Rick Mercer once hosted for CBC Television.

It was a hilarious program that showed him tricking Americans into believing ridiculous ideas about Canada, such as that we didn't have a 24-hour clock.

It was great when it came out. But for some reason, it's just not that funny anymore.
