Pepsi Is Launching Smartphones In China

Would you buy one?

Get ready, Pepsi fans with relatives in China: PepsiCo will be launching smartphones and accessories in the coming months.

To be clear, the food and beverage company says it will not be getting into the mobile phone manufacturing business. Instead, the company will be working with a licensing partner to develop and market the phones, a company spokesperson told Reuters in an email.

The spokesperson would not identify the partner or the specs of the phone.

However, tech website Mobipicker reports that at least one of the phones will be called the "Pepsi P1."

The Pepsi P1 will boast (a somewhat average) 5.5" screen, as well as a 1.7 gHz CPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The 13-megapixel rear camera is paired with a 5-megapixel front camera. The Pepsi P1 will be powered by a 3000 mAh battery.

The price will be 1,299 Chinese yuan, or about C$265, and the Pepsi P1's OS will be Android 5.1, according to the leak.

While this may seem outlandish from a corporate branding perspective, remember, this is the company that also gave us "Pepsi Man." (Skip to 2:30)

We can anticipate official details on Oct. 20.
