The 2016 Met Gala Will Celebrate Fashion In An Age Of Technology

The Oscars of the fashion world will happen in May, and guess who's hosting?

The 2016 Met gala (a.k.a. the Oscars of the fashion world) has revealed this year's theme along with its famous co-chairs.

‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’ is the theme for the 2016 Met Gala, the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition. The gala will focus on the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion (think laser cutting, thermo shaping, circular knitting).

Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, told Vogue:

"Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”

The exhibition is also set to have several "in process" workshops, including 3-D printing, which will be on public display.

The opening night of the exhibition, which will showcase more than 100 pieces of fashion, will take place on May 2nd in New York City and will feature honorary chairs Nicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld, and Miuccia Prada. The event will be hosted by co-chairs Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive, Taylor Swift and Anna Wintour.

Oh, and we forgot to mention: The accompanying exhibition will be sponsored by Apple. NBD.
