Munenori Kawasaki doesn't play much. But that hasn't stopped him from becoming a star for the Blue Jays as they move on in the playoffs.
The Japanese second baseman stole the show when he recited his ABCs for CBC News on Wednesday, after the Jays beat the Texas Rangers to move on to the American League Championship Series (ALCS).
The video circulated online one day after he did this show-stopper of an interview with Sportsnet.
Kawasaki, 34, joined the Blue Jays in 2013, after a one-year stint with the Seattle Mariners.
He made history with the Jays in his first season there, when he replaced an injured Jose Reyes and became the first Japanese player ever to suit up for the team.
Kawasaki quickly became a fan favourite for his play, and his personality, CBC News reported.
He helped the team to victory against the Baltimore Orioles that season, hitting a home run to tie the game at six runs apiece before the Jays won 7-6.
And he drew even more attention when he bowed for the crowd three times.
His star has shone even brighter in interviews, like this one from last year:
Fellow countryman Ichiro Suzuki, who plays for the Miami Marlins, was impressed at how Jays fans embraced him when he started there.
"I thought he handed out free pizza to the crowd or something," he said.
Maybe not. But he is serving up some great lines.
And we can't wait to hear more as the Jays march on to the World Series.
