The health benefits of superfoods are said to include include longer life, reduced risk of chronic disease and weight loss, but should we believe all the hype?

Bon Appetit's Tyler MacNiven says maybe not, claiming some superfoods aren't that much healthier than regular food while others can't be absorbed entirely by our digestive systems.

Kale, blueberries, chia seeds, seaweed, avocado, spirulina and flaxseed are all considered to be "nutrient powerhouses" that contain lots of antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins and minerals.

Now, MacNiven is putting those superfoods on trial.
