Ontario Aboriginal Education: Two Teens Want First Nations Curriculum For All Kids

TiCarra Paquet and Starr Trudeau explain why it's so important.

Five months ago, teens TiCarra Paquet and Starr Trudeau started a Change.org petition in an effort to make Indigenous Studies mandatory in Ontario elementary schools.

In the petition, which now has over 1,000 supporters, the girls wrote: “We understand that Indigenous Studies is integrated into several courses, the issue with this is that the information is limited because students are only receiving fragments of a massive culture, history, language, heritage, and spirituality.”

In the video above, the teens explain what sparked their campaign and why having a compulsory First Nations curriculum for kids is so important.
