SPOTTED: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, in a tiara for only the third time (!!!).
On Tuesday, the royal, also known as Kate Middleton, donned what looked like the Lotus Flower tiara (or what some call the Papyrus tiara) to her first state banquet at Buckingham Palace where, her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, hosted China's leader, Xi Jinping and Madame Peng.
At around 8:08 pm in the UK, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William were seen leaving Kensington Palace. Princess Kate was snapped wearing a red sequined Jenny Packham gown, chandelier diamond earrings and of course, the tiara. Many speculated if Kate would even sport the royal accessory, and to our delight, she did indeed.
The mum-of-two joined 170 others at a horseshoe-shaped table in honouring the visiting president, who is on a four-day visit to the United Kingdom. Female members of the royal family are to follow protocol by dressing in evening gowns, sporting family jewels and wearing gloves, and they must wear tiaras for the big night, often loaned to them by the Queen herself.
This is the third time Kate has worn a tiara, the first being at her wedding in 2011, in which she wore the Cartier Halo, and the second at a reception in 2013, which was the Papyrus tiara. So yes, this is all kind of a big deal.
According to IB Times, the state banquet is so intense that Middleton was "likely to have spent weeks preparing for engagement with military-like precision." And Hello Magazine mentions that the table setting for the event includes six cups per person.
We only wish Kate could wear a tiara every day. *sigh*.
