Red tide of Liberal support as early election results come in from East Coast

HALIFAX — The Liberals have jumped out to an early lead as election results roll in from Atlantic Canada.

At one point, the party was leading or elected in all 32 ridings across the region.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the Liberals have taken at least six of the province's seven seats including one formerly held by a New Democrat.

NDP incumbent Ryan Cleary lost out to Liberal and former CTV host Seamus O'Regan in the riding of St. John's South-Mount Pearl.

The Liberals have also held onto their ridings of Labrador and Avalon.

In Nova Scotia, Liberals Roger Cuzner, Mark Eyking and Geoff Regan will retain their seats in Cape Breton-Canso, Sydney-Victoria and Halifax West, respectively.
