REGINA — A couple from Ponteix, Sask., say their first order of business after winning a $2 million lottery prize will be to visit relatives in the Philippines.
Romel and Esther Mendoza say they'll also pay off their mortgage and put money away for their children's education.
The couple won the money on the Oct. 7 draw of the Western 649.
They say when they went to a gas station to check their ticket, they thought at first they had won $200,000.
Romel says he scanned the ticket a second time and only then realized the ticket was worth far more.
He says they didn't know what to do at first, so they went grocery shopping and tried to continue with their day as usual.
"When we got home, Esther put the ticket in her purse and hid it under a shirt for safe-keeping,'' he says. "It was exciting.''
