Newfoundland and Labrador premier welcomes state-of-the-art ferry to province

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The premier of Newfoundland and Labrador has taken receipt of the province's newest ferry.

Paul Davis was on the St. John's waterfront with other provincial ministers to welcome the MV Veteran.

The vessel will replace the MV Capt. Earl W. Winsor and service Fogo Island and Change Islands starting next month.

The MV Veteran, which was built in Romania and launched in March, is one of several new ferries to be constructed as part of efforts to renew the province's fleet.

It's the first of two new 80-metre, roll-on, roll-off passenger ferries built in Romania by Damen Shipyards.

The MV Legionnaire will service Bell Island in fall 2016, and be serviced by a local company.
