Inspiration for nail art can be found anywhere -- magazine ads, movie scenes, fabric patterns, artwork. The designs don't have to be exact copies of your source of inspiration, but can instead draw from a single feature. The source of inspiration for this nail art design is a painting by Jessica Gorlicky, a Canadian artist based in Toronto.
I chose to emulate the hair of the lady in the artwork by using a variety of colours, a nail art brush and a bit of acetone. Because this doesn't need to be perfect, it is a great nail art design for beginners. You could even use this design as an accent nail with plain black or white nails.
Start with a plain white base, and then grab your nail art brush and start creating curved lines of colour on the nails. For some of the lines, dip your brush in acetone before picking up some polish. This makes the polish more translucent and adds dimension. To make it easy, use one colour of polish at a time and draw lines on all nails before switching colours. Once you have finished with the last colour, let the design dry for about 10 minutes, and then apply a topcoat to keep your design lasting for several days.
