Toronto's John Epping tops Winnipeg's Mike McEwen 7-5 at The National

OSHAWA, Ont. — Toronto's John Epping scored three in the seventh end en route to a 7-5 victory over Winnipeg's Mike McEwen at The National on Thursday afternoon.

In other Draw 7 games, Calgary's Kevin Koe outscored Brad Gushue of St. John's 9-6 and Sweden's Niklas Edin edged Switzerland's Sven Michel 7-6.

Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers topped American John Shuster 5-3 and Ottawa's Rachel Homan beat Winnipeg's Kerri Einarson 9-4.

The National is the second major event on the Grand Slam of Curling schedule.

Round-robin play continues through Friday and the quarter-finals are scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

The finals at the $200,000 bonspiel are set for Sunday.
