Your Weekend: What to do in Toronto

Syria Film Festival

The first-ever Syria Film Festival takes place this weekend at Jackman Hall.  For tickets and more information, see here.

Santa Claus Parade

Christie Pits Park, Nov. 15

One way to check out all the action of the Santa Claus Parade is to spend the morning at Christie Street at Bloor Street West, where the floats wait for the parade to begin. You can walk among them, meet the bands and settle in for the parade, skipping the long wait in the cold.

See details here.

Roald Dahl Day

Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, Nov. 14

It's the sixth annual Roald Dahl Day, and fans of the British children's author are gathering at Hot Docs Cinema for original stories by kids, DIY crafts and a screening of Wes Anderson's animated adaptation of Dahl's novel, Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Doors open at noon, film starts at 1 p.m. $5-$10. See the website for more details.

Toronto Salsa Practice

Trinity-St. Paul's (427 Bloor Street West), Nov. 14

Dancers of all levels are invited to the weekly salsa lesson at the church. The salsa practice has been matching people of all levels of experience, styles and abilities — changing partners every song — for the past 14 years (its 15th anniversary is in January 2016!). You don't have to bring a partner.
