Canada's new minister of natural resources says reviews of new oil pipeline projects will go through a transition phase to restore public confidence.
James Carr isn't offering any details of how the new Liberal government may alter the process for TransCanada's (TSX:TRP) Energy East and Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain proposals to take Alberta oil to the coasts.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, he says Canadians understand that environmental and economic issues have to be linked.
The Winnipeg MP says the makeup of the National Energy Board, which reviews major pipelines, should broadly reflect the makeup of the Canadian population.
Carr adds that issues such as climate change should factor in to any review of a major project.
