Weight Lost: How This Woman Lost 50 Pounds Without Depriving Herself Of Anything

"I still occasionally enjoy a dinner roll or fries with a pint of beer when I am out with friends."

Harpreet Sareen

Who: Harpreet Sareen

Occupation: Pharmaceutical consultant

City: Markham

Age: 46

By The Numbers: 240 pounds at my heaviest, currently 190 pounds, for a total weight loss of 50 pounds.

The Weight Gain: I was always what you call 'heavy boned' growing up. So I was never a 'skinny' child. But I started putting on excessive weight in my first year of university. After that, I gained an additional 25 pounds after each of my two pregnancies.

Final Straw: On a trip abroad in November 2014 I had to ask the stewardess on the plane to provide an extension belt so I could buckle myself in.

That incident on the plane hit me hard. I hated my self-image and was spiraling down the vicious cycle of binge eating to improve my morale. My family was concerned for my health, I couldn't climb steps in my home without wincing in pain. I felt 'ugly' all the time.

"I am still not at my target weight but I don't stress over it as this is not a sprint but a marathon."

The Plan of Attack: In the past I had tried every diet and supplemented with weight loss pills. It wasn't until Dec. 2014, when I came across a Facebook ad for Go Girls Transformation and read the reviews that I found a style of workout I had never tried before. So I signed up for a trial pass, hoping that it would help me focus on getting healthy.

I became a member of Go Girls Transformation 11 months ago, and I've lost a total of 50 pounds.

The Exercise Factor: My first week was brutal as I had never done High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) before. I was worried that I wouldn't last the six weeks I committed to, but once I dropped seven lbs. in the first week, I knew I had to stick it out.

At the end of the six weeks I was down 20 lbs, eating way better and had more energy!

The staff at Go Girls Transformation require us to set up goals to help us focus on our training. I focus on losing 10 lbs at a time so I don't disappoint myself.

The Food Element: I started by eating more fresh produce, proteins and healthy carbs. I tried to follow a calorie-focused food plan but I found that I couldn't eat all the calories that were recommended for me, so I had to change my focus on what my body needed and fuel it accordingly.

I gave up white bread and foods saturated with fat. I also reduced the amount of alcohol I was consuming but I haven't cut out anything completely. I still occasionally enjoy a dinner roll or fries with a pint of beer when I am out with friends, but I would say I try to keep my focus on foods that will nourish my body and mind.

The Current Day-to-Day: My daily routine is pretty simple: go to work, work out at Go Girls Transformation and then go home. I work out at Go Girls Transformation four times a week. In the summer I also play softball and in the winter I switch to squash.

"I did not let my past failures dictate how I could achieve my current goals."

Looking back, I'm most proud of the lifestyle change I've made and maintain. I only wish I discovered Dan Go and his awesome team at Go Girls Transformation before so my past experiences wouldn't have been filled with disappointment.
