Reports: Longtime Indians executive Atkins to take over as Blue Jays GM

TORONTO — Longtime Cleveland executive Ross Atkins will succeed Alex Anthopoulos as general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays according to multiple media reports.

Atkins most recently served as the Indians' vice-president of player personnel under new Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro.

The position opened when Anthopoulos — a popular figure in Toronto, especially after building a team that ended the Jays' 22-year post-season drought this season — declined an extension in October.

Longtime Toronto executive Tony LaCava took over as interim GM after Anthopoulos's departure.
