REGINA — RCMP say a near-tragedy on Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan demonstrates that ice on the province's waterways isn't thick enough for ice fishing.

Two men managed to escape when their truck broke through the ice and sank north of Collingwood Estates.

Mounties say the pair drove onto the ice, parked and walked out further to fish.

When they walked back, they began driving off the ice and didn't make it.

RCMP say the truck is now embedded in the ice.

Fire and police departments have been warning people that due to the warm weather, ice is thin throughout the province.
