With so many new baby name fads, such as “Star Wars” and Instagram-inspired monikers, names that have long been old favourites are dying out quick.
Statista recently revealed an infographic showing the baby names that have declined the most in popularity since 1996. In that year, all the monikers in the infographic ranked in the top 100 in England and Wales. However, according to the charts, these monikers are likely to be endangered in the near future.
Kristy, for instance, plummeted to number 1,324 from its high rank of 53 in 1996. Similarly, Macauley dropped from number 95 and now sits at 954.

Baby Names That Are Dying Out
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of popular baby names diminishing in popularity so quickly. Earlier this year, Nameberry noted 15 boy and girl names that were on the verge of extinction, including Barbra, Waldo and Claudine.
Similarly, back in March it was reported that the name Gary had fallen out of fashion quicker than any other moniker. In the U.S. in the 1950s, nearly 39,000 babies were named Gary. In 2013, that number dropped significantly to just 442.
