Calgary police are searching for a man who grabbed a young boy in Edgemont.

On Friday, the nine-year-old student was walking home from school when a man came up to him at the intersection of Edgemont Boulevard and Edenwold Dr. N.W. around 3:30 p.m.

The man grabbed the boy by his waist and carried him across Edgevalley Dr., police said in a media release Sunday.

The student managed to break free and ran to his nearby babysitter, who confronted the suspect before he sauntered off.

The victim's mother reported the incident to the police the next day.

The man is described as Caucasian, 5'5" or 5'6", and about 27 years old, police said. He had brown hair, a beard, and was wearing a blue toque, black jacket, and had white headphones in his ears.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Calgary Police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or Crimestoppers to remain anonymous.
