Vancouver's only cat café has shut down for the time being, after a rush of adoptions left the shop completely catless.
Catfé, which is part coffee shop and part feline foster home, opened for business in Chinatown less than a month ago.
"Overwhelming success" saw more than a dozen cats taken to forever homes, according to its Facebook page.
Catfé's felines have been coming from the BC SPCA, which sends over its "most social" cats — however, the agency hasn't been transferring as many animals because of reduced holiday hours and poor road conditions.
"Our aim is to have anywhere between eight and 12 cats at the cafe, which will fluctuate as cats get adopted out and more cats arrive," the café said Tuesday. "We are excited that so many cats have already found homes, but we also look forward to providing a fun, cat-filled space in the near future."
Several Facebook users suggested that the shop could look to other organizations to source cats, but the café said that wouldn't work.
"Most shelters are not willing to mix their cats with other shelters' cats, due to differing protocols," it said.
The catfé is set to re-open on Friday.
