Ajax teacher charged with child luring, on Facebook

A 52-year-old teacher from Ajax is facing child luring charges after allegedly arranging to meet a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.

Police say there was no real teenage victim, but instead an officer posing as one on Facebook.

Raymond Hubbard was arrested at Terry Fox Public School yesterday. Hubbard had worked as a teacher at the school since 2013. Before that he taught at Lincoln Alexander Public school from 2003 to 2013.

In a statement today, the Durham District School Board said that he's been "relieved of all school-based duties while the investigation proceeds."

Hubbard has been charged with:

- Child luring to facilitate sexual interference

- Child luring to facilitate invitation to sexual touching

- Child luring to make child pornography

Police say that they started investigating Hubbard after receiving a tip from a U.S. police service, alleging that he'd demonstrated suspicious behaviour online.

The school board says they're co-operating fully with police in their investigation, and that they "take it seriously when people in a position of trust and authority allegedly abuse this trust."

The board also added that there is counseling and support available to students and staff.

Investigators ask anyone with information on Hubbard's alleged suspicious online activity to call the sexual assault unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5363 or anonymously through crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
