Sandra Bullock is proud to be a working mom.
On Wednesday at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, the mom of two was honoured with the Favorite Movie Actress award and gave a heartfelt acceptance speech inspired by her 5-year-old son Louis.
Bullock began her speech by praising her nominees, who are all working mamas: Anne Hathaway (mom to be), Melissa McCarthy, Meryl Streep and Scarlett Johansson.
“I was trying to figure out why I love what I do so much, and it wasn’t so much the end result,” the 51-year-old said. “It’s the people I meet, and the memories I make, and once again, you, the people, have allowed me to be in great company tonight with these women I share this category with. They all break molds, push that glass ceiling up, and they’re all mamas.”
The actress then went on to share an anecdote about her kids, Louis, 5, and Laila, 3, who had asked her where she was going that night. When Bullock explained that she was going to a show to accept an acting award, Louis asked if he would be receiving one for something called “Videos 2015.”
Confused at first, Bullock then realized that Louis was referring to the home videos she shot of him on her iPhone.
“He said ‘Can I get an award for that?’” the actress explained. “And I said ‘Well, if you get an award you have to say thank you and be grateful so what would you say?’ And he said, ‘I would like to say thank you to the world and thank you to the planet’ and I said ‘Is there anything else you would like to say?’ and he goes, ‘No, I just want to keep it simple.’”
The proud mom then took her son’s advice and ended her speech saying: “On behalf of Videos 2015, thank you to the planet and on behalf of this mama, I would like to say thank you to the people on this planet for once again the great company, giving me a memory and this. Thank you so much.”
