When it comes to diversity on magazine covers, most publications don't have the best rap sheet. However, ELLE is taking a step forward with its annual "Women In TV" issue.
The five covers feature five actresses including "Quantico's" Priyanka Chopra, "How to Get Away With Murder's" Viola Davis, "Empire's" Taraji P. Henson, "Veep's" Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Olivia Wilde, who stars in the upcoming HBO show, "Vinyl."
As Fashionista notes, this issue stars as many women of colour as the magazine featured in all of 2015.
The covers are a stark difference from last year's 'Women In TV' issue, which made waves for using a black and white close-cropped image of one of its stars, Mindy Kaling, for her cover. Meanwhile, Amy Poehler, Zooey Deschanel and Allison Willams all got three-quarter length shots in colour.
This time around, the majority of the stars are non-white, and are all photographed with the same amount of body showing (aside from Henson, who even got to put more on display). Could this be the beginning of more progressive and diverse magazine covers? Only time will tell, but it's definitely a good start.
The ELLE "Women in TV" issue hits newsstands Jan. 19. Check out more images from the issue below:
