"Blue Monday" was coined by a British travel agency in 2005, but it's important to note no in-depth research went into its creation.

Even so, people have still come to fear it 11 years later.

But what makes today the "most depressing day of the year?"

The factors include debt levels incurred from the holidays, the long cold winter days and more recently, failed New Year's resolutions.

In fact, a recent Ipsos Poll found 73 per cent of Canadians who made New Year's resolutions would inevitably end up breaking them.
