Controversy continues after the Academy Awards announced its 2016 all-white actor nominees last week.
Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith have announced they are boycotting the annual awards show due to the lack of diversity, while #OscarsSoWhite continues to take over social media.
Among those showing their disappointment for the situation is actor, vlogger and MTV Decoded host, Franchesca Ramsey. Her response? A nail tutorial which brilliantly shows the Oscars' major diversity problem.
Ramsey starts off the video by paying homage to the (non-existent) women in the Best Director category.
"I'm using clear because clearly women just aren't good directors. That's why there's only been one female winner in the Academy's 88-year history," she laments while "laying on" the clear polish "real thick — kinda like the excuses that are used to justify why women are not being nominated in this category."
Then, she moves on to the men and women nominated in the "Best Actor" and "Best Supporting Actor" categories, where she opts not to use black or brown hues, as there are no people of colour nominated, but rather an array of white, beige and pink shades.
"Instead we're going for a look that I like to call ombre beige," she says. "Who knew beige could be so diverse?"
She then tops things off with a clear top coat because "clearly, Hollywood needs to do better" before proceeding to describe the finished look as "traditional, predictable, safe and yet grossly disappointing."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
