Shaving Pubic Hair: Here's What You Need To Know

Should you really do it?

It leaves your skin irritated and itchy, yet most adults still remove their pubic hair to some extent.

According to the video above by Buzzfeed, about 70 to 80 per cent of adults get rid of pubic hair, either by shaving or waxing. And while there are countless side effects of hair removal down there β€” folliculitis, razor burns and in-growns, just to name a few β€” science has also shown there are some benefits to keeping your pubic area hair-free.

But the debate to shave or not to shave your pubes is always ongoing, and as sexologist Carlen Costa adds, there are plenty of good reasons to grow out your pubic hair for overall health.

For one, pubic hair is a "champion" for tapping dirt and other unwanted particles from entering your genitals, she says, adding that when you shave, you're more likely to open up your pores to unwanted bacteria.

And if hair still bothers you (for whatever reason), here are some steps from Shape magazine you don't want to miss. Oh, and make sure you're aware of all these styles, as well.
