RED DEER, Alta. — A man has been convicted of attacking a woman who ran into the central Alberta bush to escape and was lost for nearly two weeks.

A jury in Red Deer found Kevin Roy Gladue guilty on Friday of aggravated sexual assault.

A sentencing hearing for the 38-year-old is to take place Tuesday.

Court heard Gladue and the woman were in a truck that got stuck on the O'Chiese reserve near Rocky Mountain House in July 2013.

The 27-year-old woman testified that she was sleeping in the truck and woke to find Gladue trying to take her pants off.

She said he hit her with an object, breaking her jaw, and she ran into the woods but became disoriented.

An oilfield worker found her badly injured and wandering in the area 12 days later.

The woman told RCMP she survived on river water and berries.
