While most Canadians were enjoying a long weekend, the Weeknd was having a night to remember.
The R&B artist took home two awards at the 2016 Grammys — just one of a handful of Canadian nominees to do so — in Los Angeles Monday night. The Toronto native, who's real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, won for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best R&B Performance.
Fellow Canuck Justin Bieber also had a win for Best Dance Recording with "Where Are Ü Now. It marks the Stratford, Ont. native's first-ever win since being nominated for the first time in 2011.
Southern Ontario was also well represented with two more wins.
Jan Haust, a native of London, Ont., and Hamilton’s Peter Moore captured the best historical album honour for “The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11.”
Meanwhile, legendary singer and songwriter Joni Mitchell also brought home some hardware for the best album notes on “Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, A Ballet, Waiting To Be Danced" to bring her total to nine wins.
But it wasn't a night of celebration for all the Canadian nominees. Toronto rapper Drake lost out to rapper Kendrick Lamar who gave a blistering performance mid-show. More on that in the video above with HuffPost Canada's Joshua Ostroff on the memorable moments of the ceremony.
