Nunavut wins territory's debut at Canadian women's curling championship

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — Nunavut won its debut at the Canadian women's curling championship Thursday.

Geneva Chislett's team from Iqaluit downed B.C.'s Karla Thompson 8-7 in the first draw of the pre-tournament qualifier.

Nunavut has a team in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts for the first time.

Chislett, Thompson, Kerry Galusha of Northwest Territories and Yukon's Nicole Baldwin are playing off to gain entry into the main draw starting Saturday in Grande Prairie.
