NEW YORK — Here's some news about snooze: A new government report has uncovered which states get the most sleep, and which get the least.
South Dakota has the largest proportion of residents who average at least seven hours of sleep each night. Hawaii has the smallest.
For adults, the recommended amount of sleep is seven to nine hours each night. Past studies have found more than a third of U.S. adults get less than that.
The new report was released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Inadequate sleep has been linked to a range of diseases and conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, obesity and depression.
